The Importance of the ESSA Law of the United States to Childcare

It was in the December of 2015 that President Obama signed into law the “Every Student Succeeds Act” (ESSA), a law that replaced the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Act. With that said, it reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education in the United States and it’s the main K-12 Curriculum for the country.

What is it for?

At first glance, you may think that it has nothing to do with daycare. However, that’s where you’re wrong. The purpose of the ESSA is to cater to the needs of all types of children, even those with disabilities or other types of difficulties.

The highlights of the curriculum, though, is that it tailors to the needs of those that have undergone childcare programs in the past. Here are some of the types that the ESSA focuses on Minorities; Students experiencing poverty; Special education benefactors; Students with little to no knowledge about the English language.

The ESSA Act also takes into account the special needs of other children. With that said, different states are allowed to hold their own special curriculum or programs. In turn, parents will have the option to opt for these programs, which may cater to their children’s special needs.

There are many requirements for the states of the US regarding the ESSA Act. However, the ones mentioned above are the ones that should be prioritized by both advocates and students.

In short, ESSA strives to provide funding to literacy programs to encourage them to innovate their teaching methods.

School Accountability

The ESSA requires states to focus on how to measure school performance. There are many factors that they can choose from but ultimately, there are five required factors.
